Embracing the present

I am reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I found these words particularly powerful:

Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry--all forms of fear--are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of nonforgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence.(1)

I'm only half way through this book, but I'm finding it very powerful. It isn't specifically written for people with anxiety problems, but every word rings true for people like us.

Hello, I just came across your blog and I've also read a couple of Eckhart Tolle's books and I also think what he has to say is very powerful. I notice that much of my anxiety comes from worry about what could happen or what might happen rather than what IS happening.

Thank you for the quote from Tolle. I picked up the book a few months ago, but wasn't able to get very far due to lack of concentration and focus. Will try again!

does this book include steps to take in order to not focus on the future so much?

Wesley: Sort of. Tolle seems to focus on just living in the now. No steps necessary. Just do it. :)It's not easy to do, but we already have the tools to do so. It's a thin book and maybe worth your time.
